Background Images

For this assignment you will collect two and create two background images. The image used for the background of this page is called rock.jpg. You should take a look at it by itself and then click back to this page to see if you can pick out the individual tiles which make up the background for this page.

Load rock.jpg into The GIMP. Take a look at the size in pixels of this image. This image was sampled from a larger image. Click here to view original picture. Many pictures provide areas which may be useful as background images.

Sometimes artists create fancy background images with lines which meet the borders of the image so that they continue into the next tile. You might try your hand at creating this kind of fancy background image if you have the time and inclination.

Assignment:

For this assignment you will create a total of four pages. Each page will contain a different background image. One page will function as a home page and will have three links to three different pages which will each have a link back to the home page. Additionally, each page will have a link to the image which serves as its background image (just like this page does). You will create two of your images in The GIMP. They may not be any larger than 126x126 pixels and they must have an interesting (not too simple) pattern that continues across the edges of the image when it is tiled. The other two images you can collect from the Internet (or if you want you can also make these yourself).
