Measurement Words

There are a lot of things you can measure and ways that you can measure stuff. For instance, you can measure the length, temperature, weight, volume, and speed of different objects. For instance, an aquarium may have a volume of ten gallons, which means that it can hold up to ten gallons of water. Here are some more sample sentences.

VOLUME:
The can holds twelve ounces of soda.

SPEED:
Jill's car can reach a top speed of eighty-five miles per hour.

LENGTH:
The distance from Jill's house to Jack's house is three miles.

TEMPERATURE:
Yesterday after noon it was eighty-two degrees.

WEIGHT:
My pet dog weighs three pounds and five ounces.

Here are some brief explanations of volume, speed, length, temperature, and weight:

VOLUME: The capacity of a container or how much liquid (or gas)
          a container can hold.

SPEED: How fast an object travels or the rate of travel.

LENGTH: How long or tall something is.
