Pronouns
Here are a whole bunch of pronouns:
it she he they we
them her his him our
my its I their
Pronouns reference another noun in a sentence or in a preceding sentence.
Consider these sentences.
Bart cooked hamburgers at the party. He is a great cook.
You know that the pronoun he in the second sentence refers to Bart. If we
didn't have pronouns to use like this we would always have to say the
person's name over each time we referred to that person.
Here are a couple more examples:
Wanda always brushed her teeth after meals.
Oscar liked to eat a lot and he liked to cook a lot.
The runners made it to the bridge where they rested for a while.
In each of these sentences a pronoun is used and each case it is easy to
tell which noun the pronoun refers to. The pronoun her in the first
sentence refers to Wanda. The pronoun he in the second sentence
refers to Oscar. The pronoun they in the last sentence refers to the
runners.
