Commas and Lists
Sometimes you write a sentence in which you list a bunch of stuff. Consider
these examples.
At the store we bought some cherries, apricots, and apples.
While in the desert we say some mesquite, creosote, and willows.
In the sky we saw a goose, a balloon, and an airplane.
As you can see the items in the list are separated by commas. The comma
before the and is actually optional and when you list only two items you do
not use a comma at all.
We ate noodles and goose for dinner.
We purchased apples, apricots and cherries at the fruit stand.
We purchased apples, apricots, and cherries at the fruit stand.
In this lesson we will always use a comma before the "and" at the end of a
list even though it is actually optional.
She packed some soap, a toothbrush, and shampoo.
