Nouns

Most of the words in this spelling list can be used as nouns. A noun is a word which names a person, place, or thing. Most of the words on this spelling list are nouns which name physical objects such as lizards, cactus, snakes, and train. Here are some examples of these nouns used in sentences.

Several lizards ran out from under the rock.

He tripped and fell onto a cactus.

The snake slithered into its hole.

He purchased a ticket so he could ride the train.

Each of these sentences contains other nouns besides the spelling words shown in red. For instance, rock, hole, and ticket are also nouns. Words like he, she, and it are sort of like nouns and we'll discuss them in a later lesson. In these examples every noun in each sentence is underlined.

The pain was almost too much to take.

It does not rain very often in the desert.

   The dessert was delicious.

The turtles swam in the water.
