Keyboarding Skills - INTERMEDIATE LEVEL - BLOCK TWO

Punctuation Symbols on Number Keys

You will notice punctuation symbols on the number keys. In this lesson we will deal with the dollar sign (on the 4-key), the exclamation point (on the 1-key), and the percent sign (on the 5-key). To strike these keys, you use the same fingers as you would to get the number key they are on. The only thing you do different is to hold down one of the shift keys (use the free hand to hold the shift key).

Review of finger assignments for number keys:

1-key: LEFT PINKY
2-key: LEFT RING
3-key: LEFT MIDDLE
4-key: LEFT POINTER
5-key: LEFT POINTER
6-key: LEFT OR RIGHT POINTER (pick one and stick to it)
7-key: RIGHT POINTER
8-key: RIGHT MIDDLE
9-key: RIGHT RING
0-key: RIGHT RING OR RIGHT PINKY (pick one and stick to it)
